Tarot and Kabbalah

Chapter 74: The Number Five (5)

The number five is the pentalpha, the star of five points. The planet Mercury corresponds unto it, as does Leo, the fifth constellation.

The solar plexus corresponds to this number, and, among the metals, Azoth (Mercury). Its musical note is Sol. It is related with bile. Esoterically, it corresponds with the planet Mars.

The Arcanum 5 of the Tarot

The number five in Kabbalah is the Hierophant, severity, the law. It is said that it has seventy-two accessible doors, and that each door has thirty-five principles. We are strong in proportion to our obedience of these principles. The number five is the living fire that is infused within us, and it is defused everywhere within us; this is the strength of the fire.

Let us analyze the seventy-two doors:

7 + 2 = 9 (Ninth Sphere)

Thirty-five principles: 3 + 5 = 8 (infinite)

The Arcanum 9 of the Tarot

The number nine is the Hermit, the Ninth Sphere, sex. In regard to the number eight, it is Justice, which is represented by the sign of the infinite. The fire of Phlegethon and the water of Acheron are the fire and the water, origin of human beings, beasts, and gods. Every authentic initiation starts here.

The Son of Man comes from the fire and the water, which is what gives us strength.

The number five is in itself the star of five points, the pentalpha, the human being. The authentic human being has to be born in the Ninth Sphere. To comprehend this is very important, because this is the “seventy-two doors,” the Ninth Sphere where he is born, and it is the Ninth Sphere that gives potency to the Son of Man.

The thirty-five principles are justice, the law. The number five is corroboration. The water and the fire are intercrossed in the Ninth Sphere and form the sign of the infinite, which is a horizontal eight.

Conclusion:

Infinite equals pentalpha

The great esotericist Ariano Montes, who abides in a monastery of Spain, gives us this formula: infinite = pentalpha. This formula also is found in ancient books. The Son of Man is born from the water and the fire in the Ninth Sphere, sex.

From the psychological point of view, the number five is persuasion, investigation, selection, comprehension.

We see that studying is within the number five. We have to know how to profoundly handle this number in a reflective and analytical way, by searching and inquiring about new aspects. One needs to analyze and to investigate. Nothing should be done in an nonreflective way, because things are done in the wrong way when these conditions are not fulfilled.

Therefore, one should not make projections, because then one fails. Those who waste their life by making projections, always fail. We have to see the pros and cons of anything in order for there not to be wrong actions. We must learn to think for ourselves. All of those who live by making projections fail. They fail because they are just making projections.

We must march forward based on facts and with intelligence in order not to make a blunder. From the abyss that exists between thoughts and facts, sometimes a projection is formed, but it does not become concrete.

We must not march with projections, but with facts. We have to march with facts, with intelligence, with wisdom, with comprehension; otherwise, we can have great failures. We must be alert.

The number five is also a symbol of power. We must do things with intelligence; we must be vigilant in order to not err.
